DNS setup
Point MX to OwnHost Spam Gateway
After your order is active, update your domain MX record to the target below so inbound mail is filtered by OwnHost Spam Gateway. This does not change your website A/AAAA records.
The sample record below updates when you enter your domain.
- Open DNS management for your domain (registrar or DNS host).
- Remove existing MX records, or raise their priority numbers so the new gateway wins.
- Add the MX record below (Host is usually
@or blank / apex). - Use TTL 3600; propagation can take 1–24 hours.
| Type | Host | Priority | Value / Points to |
|---|---|---|---|
| MX | @ |
10 | s0.protection.ownhost.net |
yourdomain.com. IN MX 10 s0.protection.ownhost.net.
Leaving old mail-server MX records active can bypass filtering. Only the OwnHost Spam Gateway MX should remain active.
